Shunsuke, Quality Assurance Engineer, Motorcycle, Japan
I am dedicated to quality assurance for motorcycle brake products.
My role covers a wide range of tasks, including reliability verification in product development, quality control to manufacture high-quality products according to specifications, and after-sales support for shipped products.
Of those tasks, with market defect analysis I analyze the actual brake parts of commercially available vehicles when issues occur and investigate the cause. While there are various causes, they often lead to advancements in future products, and so we contribute to quality improvement by providing the analysis results to each department and taking charge of countermeasures.
I majored in theoretical physics at the university, where I learned about theories and concepts on paper.
The real pleasure of working as an engineer is how you can experience the abstract knowledge of physics and chemistry actually applied in a more concrete form—in various phases such as product design, development, manufacturing, and analysis.
Because brake products are vitally linked to the safety of vehicles and people, there is a sense of responsibility and confidence that we’re protecting the safety of users around the world through quality assurance. I believe that truly addressing and solving product issues that arise, one by one, will lead to improved quality and usability of existing products and new products to be developed in the future.
Analysis work is not a standardized, as sometimes we need to look at things from a new perspective while devising new analysis and verification methods. So it’s a job that requires creativity. Repeated inspections and tests to shed light on problems are challenging, but also rewarding when problems are identified and solutions are found. And, when those solutions are actually reflected in specifications and manufacturing processes, leading to quality improvements.
I'm involved in product quality in a wide range of phases, from development to manufacturing and aftermarket, and I'm also able to collaborate with various departments to work as a team.
In the manufacturing industry, improving and ensuring quality is of utmost importance, so the appeal of quality assurance is that you feel a sense of responsibility to play a part in it.

In addition, Astemo not only provides an environment where you can develop your skills, but also an opportunity to challenge yourself in new fields. There is also a culture where you can cultivate a global perspective through interaction with overseas customers and bases, and I believe there are a lot of flexibility, such as being able to make schedules and proceed with work while respecting differences in people and ways of working.
