Hitachi Astemo, Ltd. (“Hitachi Astemo,” “we,” “us,” and “our”) records images visible from our test vehicles driving on public roads in Australia to develop our products and services. This Privacy Notice/Privacy Policy (this “Notice”) describes how we collect, use and protect personal information in connection with such collection in accordance with applicable privacy laws and regulations, including the Australian Privacy Principles.
We collect personal information by driving test vehicles on public roads in Australia and recording footage around the test vehicles using onboard cameras. The footage may contain personal information visible from public streets, such as appearances and behaviors of passersby, as well as their whereabouts, the date and time, and/or the license plates of vehicles around the test vehicles (hereinafter, “Personal Information”) . We engage a third party, IDIADA Automotive technology S.A., to assist us with such collection of the Personal Information.
The purpose of collecting the Personal Information is to develop an advanced driver-assistance system (“ADAS”) and related products and services.
We disclose the Personal Information collected as described in Section 1 to the following third parties:
- Automobile manufacturers with whom we develop ADAS and related products and services
- Our service providers who help us analyze such footage
- Our service providers who provide us with different kinds of cloud services we use as our development platform
In such cases, we will ensure compliance with all legal requirements, including entering into agreements with our service providers.
If the images we hold contain your personal information, you have the following rights, subject to the conditions set forth in the Privacy Act of 1998.
・Right of access: You may request access to your personal information we hold
・Right to seek correction: You may request correction of your personal information
・Right to complain: You may file a complaint about our potential breaches of the Australian Privacy Principles (“APP”)

Inquiry About Personal Information Protection
If we receive a complaint, we will respond within a reasonable period of time, depending on the time required to investigate the facts related to the complaint. If the investigation reveals that a violation of the APP has occurred, we will take the necessary corrective measures to ensure compliance, including updating our internal rules regarding personal information processing.
We disclose personal information to recipients outside of Australia. Specifically, we disclose such information to our partners and service providers in Japan, the United States, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and EU countries. Whenever we disclose your personal information outside of Australia, we put in place appropriate safeguards (including contractual commitments) to ensure your personal information is properly protected.
