Tokyo, June 2, 2014 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that Helio Castroneves, a Hitachi contract driver with the Penske Racing team sponsored by the Hitachi Group, including Hitachi Automotive Systems, swept to victory in the seventh event of the IndyCar series held in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday June 1.
Castroneves, who started third, took over the lead on the 28th lap and stayed in front over the second half to score a dazzling win. In second place was Penske Racing teammate Will Power, completing a one-two finish for Penske Racing.
The result lifted Castroneves to second place in the 2014 championship standings led by Will Power.
One day earlier, Power won the sixth race of the series held on the same track, giving the team the brilliant achievement of consecutive victories in Detroit races.
Looking ahead, Hitachi Automotive Systems will use its sponsorship of motor sports, including IndyCar racing, to further grow the Hitachi brand and make a contribution to motor sports.
