Tokyo, September 5, 2014 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that Helio Castroneves, a Hitachi contract driver in the Penske Racing team, sponsored by the Hitachi Group, came fourteenth in the final race of the 2014 IndyCar Series held at Fontana, California, on August 30, clinching second place in the season's championship standings for the second year in a row.
In the season opener held at St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 30, Castroneves had a solid race that gained him third place in the season standings. Then in the seventh race, held in Detroit, Michigan, on June 1, Castroneves scored his first win with Hitachi as Primary Race, moving him up to second place in the standings. Following the eleventh race in Newton, Iowa, on July 12, he took over the lead in the standings. Although teammate Will Power took over first place in August, Castroneves had a strong 2014 season, with podium finishes in six of the 18 races.
