Tokyo, June 16, 2015 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that Helio Castroneves, a Penske Racing Driver contracted and sponsored by the Hitachi Group (including Hitachi Automotive Systems) took third place in the tenth event of the IndyCar series held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on June 14.
Helio Castroneves began the race in seventh position. All cars started out with wet tires, but the track steadily dried and the condition improved during the race. The third place finish by Castroneves was very much a team effort, a combination of hard work by the pit mechanics, particularly with the tire changes, and skillful driving on the track.
Penske Racing teammate Will Power came fourth, Juan Pablo Montoya in seventh place and Simon Pagenaud in eleventh place.
The result lifted Castroneves to fourth place overall in the 2015 championship standings, behind teammates Montoya and Power in first and second place respectively, with Team Penske drivers dominating the top spots.
Looking ahead, Hitachi Automotive Systems will use its sponsorship of motor sports, including IndyCar racing, to further grow the Hitachi brand and make a contribution to motor sports.
