Tokyo, November 6, 2018 — Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that representatives from Hitachi Automotive Systems competed in the three categories of Precision Machinery Assembly, Cutting Dies, and Mechatronics at the 56th National Skills Competition (NSC). The competitions were held in Okinawa and Ibaraki prefectures from Saturday October 27 to Monday November 5, and representatives competed with other participants selected through Vocational Ability Development Associations in each prefecture.
Hitachi Automotive Systems has entered the NSC, held to determine the best skills in Japan among the young technicians who will lead the next generation, 51 times in succession, from the 6th NSC held in 1968 to the 56th held this year.
At the NSC, Yoshinari Hashimoto from Hitachi Automotive Systems won silver in the Precision Machinery Assembly category, while Hidenori Yoshioka won bronze. In the Cutting Dies category, Haruki Moriyama won silver, while Yusuke Ogura won bronze.
The Precision Machinery Assembly category is a contest of machine processing skills using three types of machinery (a lathe, a milling machine, and a surface grinder) to form parts and then process, adjust, and assemble them by hand using files. The competition requires high precision to the scale of microns. Hashimoto’s ability to create easily sliding parts using high-precision processing led to him being awarded silver, while Yoshioka’s speedy machine processing skills allowed him to progress to a high level in the contest.
The Cutting Dies category is a contest of the skills to create a press die to cut a metal plate in order to manufacture a highly precise, complex mechanical part. In this category, contestants had to demonstrate precise yet comprehensive skills by machine processing, filing, assembling and adjusting the supplied materials within a limited time. Moriyama’s ability to create a precise press die through precision skills led to him being awarded silver, while Ogura’s highly precise processing skills allowed Prize-winners in the 56th National Skills Competition
