Hitachi Automotive Systems claims victory in the
ET Robot Contest, Advanced Class: Race Competition

Tokyo, November 27, 2019 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems won their first championship victory in the Advanced Class: Race Competition at the “ET Robot Contest 2019” held Wednesday, November 20 at PACIFICO Yokohama. The Sawa Plant team “Takabaasu” demonstrated tremendous skills to win their Division title, the first championship victory for the Hitachi Group.

“ET Robot Contest” is organized by the Japan Embedded Systems Technology Association (JASA) and has been held since 2005. Based on the theme of software embedded technologies (ET), the contest pits individuals or groups in high school or above from across Japan against each other in robot control technologies. This year’s championship event saw a total of 39 teams.

The Hitachi Automotive Systems Takabaasu team joined the Developer Division, Advanced Class which required the team to develop a system to quickly and accurately operate a robot travelling through an obstacle course. The Advanced Class involved the application of sophisticated technologies such as AI and image processing.

The Takabaasu team, comprised of 11 members in their second year with Hitachi Automotive Systems, competed in this contest by applying a part of automotive camera image recognition technology and control unit algorithms to control vehicle motion, both of which are core strengths of Hitachi Automotive Systems, onto the robot. Relying on our advanced image recognition technologies their robot successfully distinguished five different colored blocks to quickly maneuver and relocate the blocks to their designated area and quickly clear the obstacle course to win the championship in the Race Competition.
