Hitachi Contract Driver Josef Newgarden scores
third victory this season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Tokyo, October 7, 2020 --- Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. is thrilled to announce that Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden scored his third victory this season in the 12th race of the IndyCar Series, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Indiana on Friday, October 2.

The road course, which was built in the infield Section of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, measures approximately 4.2km long. Comprised of long straightaways and high-speed corners, the course offers spectators thrilling scenes of closely fought driving.

Josef Newgarden started the race in second position in the 85-lap course. Although he had taken the lead at times, he was unable to shake off his opponents, making for an intense and unrelenting battle of surrendering and taking back the lead. As the end of the race neared Newgarden took advantage of his opponents going off course or pit stops to take the lead. From the 67th lap, Newgarden’s strategy had paid off as he kept a comfortable distance between his opponents and cruised to his third victory this season.

The second half of the weekend doubleheader was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 3. There Newgarden finished 4th to close within a mere 32 points of the Chip Ganassi Racing driver Scott Dixon, currently ranked #1 in series.

Driving a Chevrolet car leveraging Hitachi technologies, Newgarden emphasized how quick his car was and talked about the benefits of Hitachi support. Newgarden will go into the final race this season scheduled for Sunday, October 25 proudly displaying the Hitachi logo on his car.

Hitachi Automotive Systems is a proud sponsor of Team Penske and Josef Newgarden and will work to further raise awareness of the Hitachi brand and contribute to the promotion of motorsports.
