FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reduced 11% of CO2 emissions at factories and offices
in FY2021 compared to FY2010

Tokyo, October 28, 2022 – Hitachi Astemo, Ltd. (President & CEO: Brice Koch; henceforth, “Hitachi Astemo”) is committed to the Hitachi Group goal of achieving carbon neutrality at its business sites (factories and offices) by FY2030. This goal is a part of Hitachi's long-term environmental targets "Hitachi Environmental Innovation 2050," which promotes a decarbonized society. In addition, Hitachi Astemo aims to achieve carbon neutrality throughout its value chain by FY2050. This effort includes targets to reduce CO2 emissions at factories and offices by 50% in FY2024 and by 80% in FY2027 compared to FY 2010.

In FY2021, the first year of Hitachi Astemo's establishment, CO2 emissions from factories and offices totaled 1,047,000 tons, largely due to the installation of solar power generation and a reduction in the temperature of aluminum melting and holding furnaces. This represents an approximately 11% reduction from the total FY2010 CO2 emissions of 1,183,000 tons. This number is comprised of the total CO2 emissions of the four companies that merged in January 2021 to form Hitachi Astemo: Hitachi Automotive Systems, Keihin, Showa, and Nisshin Kogyo.

Further, Hitachi Astemo contributes to CO2 emissions reduction through highly-efficient, high-performance electrified products such as motors, inverters, and electric axles for electric vehicles. These products contribute to its growing electrification business that will continue to create innovative products and solutions to address environmental and social issues, while targeting revenues of over 400 billion yen in FY2025 and more than double that by FY2030.

Hitachi Astemo is committed to strengthening its business and delivering technological innovation through a strategic business portfolio that includes a Powertrain & Safety Systems business, Chassis business, Motorcycle business, Software business and Aftermarket business. Aiming for a better environment globally and growth around the pillars of “green,” “digital,” and “innovation,” Hitachi Astemo delivers highly efficient internal combustion engine systems; electric systems; autonomous driving for improved safety and comfort; advanced driver assistance systems; and advanced chassis systems. Through such advanced mobility solutions, Hitachi Astemo will contribute to realizing a sustainable society and provide enhanced corporate value for its customers.
