FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tokyo, October 8, 2024 --- Hitachi Astemo, Ltd. (hereafter “Astemo”) will exhibit at EICMA 2024, one of the world's largest motorcycle shows, which will be held in Milan, Italy from November 5–10 (press days November 5-6). We will introduce a wide range of technologies and products including for ADAS*1 and EV*2, which contribute to safety, security and realizing carbon neutrality with motorcycles.
*1 ADAS: Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems
*2 EV: Electric Vehicles
At Hall 13, A54, Astemo will introduce technologies that meet the needs of motorcycle safety and security. They include ADAS technologies such as recognition cameras for motorcycles, gear pump driven ride height adjustment, and EV system solutions such as e-Axle, which with its improved compact packaging can be mounted on existing two-wheeled ICE vehicle frames. We will also introduce an improved braking system, which is similar to what will be installed on actual vehicles so that visitors can experience the difference firsthand.
The main products and technologies to be exhibited are as follows.
Our stereo camera-based road surface detection technology enables improved stability control during unstable motorcycle body behavior. By leveraging our strength in stereo camera detection technology, we are able to provide the road surface detection technology and recognition performance required for ADAS, which is difficult to achieve with systems combining radar and a monocular camera. In addition, stereo cameras can be installed in a separate style for consideration of the vehicle's design. ADAS technologies and products that contribute to the safety and security of motorcycles will be exhibited in a demonstration form, with the ADAS technology and products installed on the vehicle.
We will feature a compact e-Axle that can be mounted on the frame of commuter-class motorcycles. By saving space with the powertrain, the e-Axle secures more battery and luggage space while also improving cruising range and load capacity.
The gear pump driven ride height adjustment delivers smooth ride-height adjustment according to the situation and loading volume, and providing improved footing when riding or stopping that leads to a sense of security. To enable visitors to experience its functions and benefits, the system will be introduced on an actual vehicle.
Our latest brake system upgrades braking efficacy and controllability that were already highly evaluated in the previous model, and also mitigates the change in lever stiffness at high temperatures. The brake system will be exhibited in a form close to that of actual vehicles so that visitors can compare and experience the operational feel of the system.
