Solar panels installed at Hitachi Astemo Automotive Systems (Guangzhou)
Tokyo, June 26, 2023 – Hitachi Astemo Co., Ltd. (Hitachi Astemo), a group company of Hitachi Astemo, and its subsidiary Hitachi Astemo Automotive Systems (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. (Hitachi Astemo Automotive Systems (Guangzhou)), have installed solar power generation facilities at their factory in Guangzhou, China, as part of their efforts towards carbon neutrality. The facility began operation on June 16.
As a member of the Hitachi Group, Hitachi Astemo is working towards the Hitachi Environmental Innovation 2050, a long-term environmental goal aimed at creating a decarbonized society. In line with this goal, the company is working towards achieving carbon neutrality at its own business sites (factories and offices) by fiscal year 2030, with a roadmap to reduce CO2 emissions at factories and offices by 50% by 2024 and 80% by 2027 compared to fiscal year 2010 levels.
Hitachi Astemo Automotive Systems (Guangzhou), which manufactures electric vehicle motors, automotive brakes, and parts for internal combustion engines, has introduced a self-consumption off-balance solar power generation scheme that allows the company to pay for electricity usage without owning the solar power generation assets at its factory. According to this scheme, Hitachi Astemo Automotive Systems (Guangzhou) has started generating about 6,500 KW of power, with an estimated annual generation capacity of about 6,300 MWh, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 3,700 t-CO2 per year. This will be the largest solar power generation facility in China for Hitachi Astemo.
