Lei, Product Engineering Manager, Suspension Business Unit, China
I am based in Suzhou, at our Research and Development Center where I am part of the Suspension Business Unit. In my engineering role, “I accompany a project through all its different stages – from conception to initiation development through delivery to the customer.” This work requires good communication with the engineers from each customer. We provide them with solutions proposals for various products including price quotations and balance customer requirements with our internal capabilities and controls. After we finalize a proposal, we confirm a bill of materials, develop and test the product, work with a cross functional team within Astemo to accomplish all the details, while staying connected to the customer.
An important aspect of my role is to collaborate with our local Chinese engineering team, so we remain at the forefront of mobility development. We must anticipate and react quickly to customer needs. This visioning work includes building up the testing capabilities at the plant and doing research into advanced and sustainable technologies.
As engineers, we are surrounded by opportunities and we are challenged to research and develop mobility solutions. Our team concentrates on every question asked by our customers, suppliers and internal team members. This often involves identifying the root cause of an issue and determining the most efficient way to answer a question by proposing an engineering solution. Each question deserves to be treated carefully and thoroughly. These questions are the root of all innovation. Engineers like to solve a problem!
Prior to joining Astemo, I worked as an engineer at three different companies. What I most enjoy about my current role is working as part of a motivated team. Nobody can progress by themselves. However, when you come together as a team and complement each other’s skills, we can design products that are more advanced. I feel challenged to work to my potential and to support the team. As I grow as an engineer, I am better able to contribute to the team’s work as well as to share my passion for Astemo outside of the company.
